Elsa Hammond

Alone on a wide, wide sea

An award-winning travel writer, Elsa Hammond has sailed from Samoa to Fiji, unicycled across England, carried out conservation work in the jungles of Borneo, and spent 51 days rowing alone on the Pacific Ocean. An Oxford graduate, she is currently working towards a PhD in the poetry of Coleridge, Tennyson and Hardy at the University of Bristol. Alongside this she writes poetry and swims outdoors all year round.

Come and hear Elsa speak about Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in relation to her own experiences of being almost two months ‘alone on a wide, wide sea’. Expect poetry and stories of strange marine visitors, terrible weather, boat disasters, and (of course) albatrosses.
